Velody, you are on the RIGHT track, my friend!! Just start paying attention to the newsletters you receive from others. And go from there. Pay attention to what they have, where they have it, what you like and what you don't like. There are a few I get that I am horrified at how they are set up, but I also know that they just started doing them for their sites and are using new email marketing services. But study them all and see what works for you.

I am signed up with MailChimp because, for me, it is the best fit. But there is aWeber, infusion something or other, constant contact, and others out there. I have it on my "list of blog titles" to post about the different options for this. But in the meantime, just google "email marketing services" -- holy crap there's a lot! LOL

and my favorite place for promo stuff is Vista Print and Moo Cards (moo.com) -- yep .. added to the list for another post. See how easy it is to come up with ideas to post about???? OMG .... haha

You have addressed a topic that I will be posting on later this week -- Free vs. Selfhosted blog platforms. But I will comment a little here. My issue with a free site and/or site builder for blogs, is that they essentially "own" anything you put on your blog. it isn't totally yours. You have absolutely no control what they can do with your content. Read over the Terms of Service very carefully. Same with running a business on them. I know for a fact that you are not supposed to use Blogger for commercial use -- though many have. Of course the work around is linking the "shop" part to a totally different domain.

If you are in business, than it's just part of investing in your business and in yourself to self-host your blog and or business -- this means purchasing a domain and paying for hosting. This keeps from loosing all that hard work on freebie sites that do find your blog in violation and pulled off the network. I have seen it happen and it sucks ... You don't even get a chance to save it all ... back up back up back up is highly recommended if you keep a "free" service. But I will be sharing more on this subject in a later post.

The one big point that I'm missing and I know I need to work on is creating an email list and making a newsletter. I'm a bit unsure what extra I can do to publish in it. I started thinking a bit more on it today and realized that links I share through my various groups and social media could easily be part of a weekly newsletter. I'm sure my followers don't catch everything I put out either so a bit of over lap wouldn't be horrible. Also Sales and Polls could be interesting too.

Promotional material in general is stuff I really need to get out.
I'm still trying to work on my first set of Pagan Packs too and a PDF catelog I can distribute to brick 'n morter stores for wholesale.

I used to do bi-weekly newsletters for a few online forums over a period of 14 years, though I had help from people who signed up to write columns for it frequently. Weebly.com is a site builder (great for new home businesses as it connects with Paypal and your Paypal tools and is as easy as 'click-and-drag') which I used for my business which has a blog attached and I'm able to create newsletters. People who visit my site can click a link to subscribe to the newsletters. I haven't been keeping up with it because during the winter months we have our "off" season where people can still custom order for us, but we don't create anything new usually and we don't really go anywhere. I've got to get back on that! I'm not the best at newsletters, and I hope to learn more about ideas for creating a newsletter of maximum interest.

Sunfire, you are at a great starting point! Exactly what you are doing is building relationships with your customers and expanding your reach. Just start adding the other components ;)

A "List" is your mailing list, those that sign up for your newsletter or even just your RSS feed. That email list (not the emails compiled from comments -- that is NOT your list and I will expand on that in yet another blog post) is "GOLD" -- it keeps you at the top of their mind. DON"T SPAM your list with unwanted garbage. You need to be strategic. But that "list" is potentially going to turn into your bread and butter -- what brings in sales.

This is such great question ... You will see a post about it within the week ;)

Wow, that makes me feel so amateur in my blogging for business. My business blog mostly focuses on specials I am having in the shop, features of other crafters, and updates on my project(s). And what's all this about a mailing list? I tried the newsletter thing once.... that was as far as it ever got.
